News: Anza Virtual Fun Run

As a response to the challenges of holding in-person events due to COVID), the Anza Trail is hosting a virtual fun run. What is a virtual fun run, you may ask!? Participants simply run, walk, or hike anywhere of their choosing and track and post their mileage by using the hashtag #AnzaVirtualFunRun via Facebook. Every mile completed by individuals will be added to the group’s total, which in turn will move our virtual fun run team down the trail. The goal is to reach San Francisco, logging 1,200 miles cumulatively, by the end of the event on May 1. This event is hosted on our Facebook page. To participate, follow the Anza Virtual Fun Run event or register for the event by following the instructions on the event page. Anza Virtual Fun Run event page

This Anza Virtual Fun Run coincides with National Park Week and kicked off on April 17, which was ParkRx Day, a day dedicated to the understanding that wellness can be experienced outside in the natural world and encouraging people to take advantage of their local National Park Service Site.

Organizers of the event are taking this as an opportunity to promote and bring awareness to the Anza Trail and its partners. Updates on the virtual expedition’s progress will include posts from and about participating partner sites (National Park Sites, State Parks in Arizona and California, municipal and county parks, and organizations) as the virtual expedition makes its way along the Anza Trail from Nogales, AZ to San Francisco. Be sure to check out the event page and you may see your site represented! We encourage you to spread the word and share posts on your organization’s social media pages. We hope this will bring greater awareness to your site and the Anza Trail and encourage the public to visit one of the many beautiful sites along its path!
